In renovating and redeveloping the smallcraft and yacht harbor, as well as adjacent waterfront areas, an array of services were evaluated to potentially offer the most extensive services among today's ports and marinas, a solution for all boat owner and crew services, charter, and boat refit, repairs, and maintenance needs.
Marina del Rey features the largest man-made small boat harbor in the world with about 7,000 pleasure boats and yachts. The marina is surrounded by many hotels, apartments, shops, and restaurants, as well as a large number of shopping centers lining the Pacific Coast Highway just to the east. Marina del Rey is served by its own freeway, the 3-mile-long Marina Freeway (Highway 90) which links Marina del Rey directly to Interstate 405 and nearby Culver City. Marina del Rey's reputation as the largest man-made smallcraft harbor may soon be eclipsed as the announced Dubai Marina in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) is completed.
