Shopping centers have evolved over the last decade, with many exciting ideas about consumer (guest) lifestyle, placemaking (or is that place-making?), and themed entertainment sensibilities integrated not only into project design but in ongoing operations, sponsorship plans, and multimedia tactics, as well.
Retail-entertainment facilities encompass a broad variety of shopping types and variations, including lifestyle retail centers, so-called hybrid centers, "great streets," urban entertainment centers, strip malls, outlet malls, etc., as well as some of the pioneering projects in certain categories such as Universal's CityWalk program and Disney's "Downtown" projects. Stores, restaurants, another individual venues have also met the "experience economy" head-on. Consumers today can expect all manner of experiential marketing at their favorite venues.
